Upper School Academics
The Upper School consists of grades nine through twelve. As a college preparatory school, Woodlands Prep's goal is to prepare each student to earn his/her diploma and gain entrance into the university of his/her choice. The first two graduating classes of 2008 and 2009 have been accepted at many of the best colleges in the country. With a National Merit Finalist in each of the first two senior classes, our students have proven that the quality education received here at WPS truly prepares them to be successful on the SAT and ACT college entrance exams and gives them the academic background to be successful college students.
Woodlands Prep currently offers Advanced Placement courses approved by the College Board and pre-AP courses in all mathematics, science, and English courses as well as social studies, foreign languages, and art. We offer all required courses for graduation as well as second year courses for AP credit in calculus, chemistry, biology, and physics. We are one of a select few high schools in the state to offer the Infinity course, which was developed by Texas Instruments, and Southern Methodist University to promote computer engineering.
Upper School students, like the Middle School students, also have the opportunities for field trips as well as week long class trips to enhance their classroom experiences. The class trips give the students opportunities to learn outside the walls of the classroom and experience different areas of the country as well as bonding with their fellow classmates and teachers. Last year the Upper School students traveled to Quebec and Montreal, Canada to extend their studies of our newest foreign language, French.
A wide variety of extracurricular activities, which included state play-offs competitions in soccer, girls basketball, and tennis last year, enhance the classroom academic experience. Many school clubs, National Honor Society, Student Council, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, and Student Council provide leadership and service opportunities to further develop WPS students to meet the Vision of the Woodlands Preparatory School.
