Kindergarten Joni McEuen
  Ms. McEuen has spent the past 25 years teaching children, ages three through six, in the Woodlands area. A certified Montessori teacher, she also holds an A.A.S. in child development from North Harris Community College and is currently pursuing a degree in Child Psychology. Having successfully raised two sons, Ms. McEuen enjoys cooking, reading, and gardening. She hopes to introduce a love of learning to her kindergarten students at The Woodlands  Prep School>.
Kindergarten • Laurel Sneed
Mrs. Sneed has been an educator for 32 years. Her teaching tapestry is woven by experiences as a Speech/Language Pathologist, Kindergarten Teacher, mentor for student teachers, and adjunct instructor for Sam Houston State University.  She has been blessed with opportunities to teach a wide range of abilities, watch and be a part of the growth of early childhood education, and work with and learn from a myriad of talented educators. She has a 25 year old son and a 17 year old daughter to further enrich her life.  She enjoys all kinds of music, reading, gardening, baking, and writing poetry. Teaching Kindergarten has topped the list as her favorite teaching experience because she gets to witness and participate in an age of growth and development of which she is in awe.
First Grade • Christie Newcomb
Ms. Newcomb will move to become a first grade teacher this year at The Woodlands  Prep School. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University in Elementary Education with a specialization in Math and Special Education. With eight years of teaching experience in both public and private schools, Mrs. Newcomb has taught elementary resource, third grade, and kindergarten. In her spare time, Mrs. Newcomb enjoys reading, conducting children's choir, and singing.

 

First Grade • Jacqueline Somers
Click here to email me Ms. Somers teaches first grade at The Woodland Prep School. She received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education and her Master of Science in Speech from Lamar University. Certified in elementary education, secondary education, special education, and theatre arts, Ms. Somers brings a wealth of experience to the classroom. She has taught for 30 years and has never lost her love for teaching and learning. In her free time she enjoys sharing time with her nine grandchildren, reading and working with textiles.
Second Grade • Lisa Bradley
After graduating from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA, Mrs. Bradley has been working with and for children for over 25 years.  She has been a care giver for children with special needs, director of a day care center, tutor, child advocate (SAFE), substitute teacher, early childhood special education teacher and 2nd grade teacher.  Though family is top priority, being in the classroom is a close second.  Mrs. Bradley hopes her students enjoy school everyday and believes that, “Children don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”

Second Grade • Carrie Kyle
Mrs. Kyle has joined The Woodlands Prep two years ago as a fourth grade math and science teacher. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from the University of Houston. Her degree focused on Public Relations and Advertising. After several years in the public relations field, she made the choice to become a teacher through the Texas Teachers of Tomorrow program. A certified elementary education teacher, her passion for teaching is evident as she emphasizes important communication skills into everyday learning. Mrs. Kyle enjoys experimenting, being outdoors, exercising and working together for success. This year, Mrs. Kyle will be teaching second grade.
Third Grade • Jan Decker
Mrs. Decker teaches third grade at the Woodlands Prep School. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, with endorsements in Earth Science, Anthropology, English and Special Education, and her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Seattle Pacific University. Mrs. Decker has 12 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools. She has taught first grade, third grade, fourth grade and a fifth grade laptop program.
Third Grade • Cortney McMahon
  Mrs. McMahon was born in Humble and is a resident of the Montgomery County area. She has been studying Spanish for over six years and is currently acquiring her Bachelor’s degree in Spanish at Sam Houston State University. Mrs. McMahon started as a substitute at The Woodlands Preparatory School and then became a part-time lower school Spanish teacher in the fall of 2007. Along with teaching Spanish, she coaches volleyball and track. She has played volleyball for ten years and has a 4 month old daughter named Ryhan Danielle McMahon.
4th  Language Arts / History • Linda Johnson
 
Ms. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the College of St. Catherine and a Master of Science degree in Education Administration with emphasis in Curriculum & Instruction from LaCrosse University. Certified pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, Ms. Johnson has over eighteen years of teaching, tutoring, and administration experience in the elementary grades with particular expertise in language arts and math. At The Woodlands  Prep School, Ms. Johnson has gained experience as a physical education teacher, athletic coordinator, administrator, and curriculum developer. Ms. Johnson teaches fourth grade language arts and is part of our curriculum team. She is married, has two children, and enjoys vacationing with her family during time off.

 

 

Fifth Grade Language Arts • Bianca Woodruff

 

Mrs. Woodruff is excited about the opportunity to join The Woodlands Prep after teaching in public schools for 16 years.  Mrs. Woodruff comes to us with an extensive background in teaching gifted and talented students.  Mrs. Woodruff also has a very long  list of accomplishments during her 16 years of teaching.  Which include serving on the Educators Board for the Children’s Museum, training at the Rice Science Institute, served on the Committee Chair for developing and implementing curriculum, discipline, attendance, and student motivation.  She is a graduate of Southwest Texas State University with a specialization in reading and fine arts.  Her philosophy of education focuses around students driving themselves past their own expectations.  She accomplishes this by helping them take risk using critical thinking skills.  The word BELIEVE is the theme in her classroom.  She believes that if a child feels good on the inside they will produce wonders on the outside.  Her passion for teaching is evident when you walk through her door.

 

 

4th / 5th Grade Math • Lena Saavedra
  Mrs. Saavedra embraces The Woodlands as her new home after the native New Orleanian’s family decided to remain in Texas post-Hurricane Katrina.  She brings to us a diverse background, certified as an elementary education teacher with nine years of experience in both public and private schools.  She holds a BA in Art/Business from Spring College with post-baccalaureate certification in elementary education.  Although she has taught all elementary core subjects, her true passion is math.  For the past six years, she has specialized in capturing student interest and inspiring their confidence in math.  Her energy and creativity in teaching drives her goal to make mathematics a fun and lasting learning experience.  
Fifth /Fourth Grade
Science
• Rao Olayeye
  Mrs. Olayeye has joined Woodlands Prep School as a 4th/5th grade Science teacher and the Lower School Computer Technology teacher. She has a Bachelor Degree in Biological Sciences, Master Degree in Health Science and Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Technology.  She worked as a Computer Programmer/Developer for over 7 years, took a career break and then decided to become a teacher. She has taught 4 – 8 grade General Science, Biology and Integrated Physics and Chemistry (I.P.C.) in other private schools in the Woodlands.
Spanish 5th • Claudia Cox

 

Ms. Cox was born in Mexico City and she has always loved languages. She got her bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Management from the University of El Paso Texas. She also has a 2-year degree in French and Business General from Cerritos College in California. She has taught ESL, French and Spanish for about 15 years. She came to live to the United States when she married and she has one child in 1st grade. Before coming to the States she worked as an imports and exports executive for the sugar industry in Mexico as a liaison for French, Canadian and American companies during the NAFTA process of implementing this treaty among US, Mexico and Canada. She enjoys teaching languages and helping students realized their objectives in her subject matter. She likes to have her students participate actively in her class. She believes that active interaction in the target language is the key to achieving proficiency. In her spare time, she loves having fun with her family, reading, dancing, swimming, Scrapbooking, and Calligraphy. She believes that sharing is the best gift of all.
