Cross Country
Cross-Country running is starting its third year at The Woodlands Preparatory School. “XC”, as it is called, is open to Middle School and High School boys and girls. Workouts are held on or around the campus and are always supervised by Coach Doug Begin, who has been a Cross-Country coach for sixteen years. Practices will be from 2:00 – 4:00 (sometimes 4:30) every Monday-Friday afternoon. Equipment needed for practice will be a comfortable pair of running shorts, a Woodlands Prep athletic shirt, a good pair of running shoes, a stop-watch, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, mosquito repellent, and a large, filled water bottle.
Male athletes may participate in soccer and cross-country at the same time. The two sports will share practice times and there are no soccer games on Saturday mornings.
Female athletes may participate in volleyball and cross-country at the same time. The two sports will share practice times and there are very few volleyball games are on Saturday.
Middle School races against other schools will be held mainly on Saturday mornings. Middle School runners will race against other schools at distances between 1.5 and 3.1 miles. High School girls races will be 2 miles and High School boys will run a distance of 3.1 miles in competition. Their races will be held on Saturday mornings, as well. Most races will start early in the morning and usually the team will be back at school by noon or one o’clock in the afternoon.
